Palava Arts has developed a small number of applications over the last 5 years. Whilst most of the effort has gone into Web Applications a small number of temporary or permanent tools have been created in Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications.
In 2006 it has become clear that the existing web applications need to have far greater integration of synchronisation services and therefore 2 main requirements have to be addressed in the ongoing designs;
a) Local file and application access permission
b) Security of data transfer
In order to achieve these two points we have reviewed a range of solutions and platforms and concluded that the best way to achieve these two requirements is to take on a Rapid Application Development platform that will a minimal amount of code to be written once and compiled into an application that will run on Apple, Windows and Linux platforms.
REALbasic stands out as a clear favourite for this since each element of the underlying technical structure of the application is quickly demonstrated by the IDE

In order to develop the required knowledge to release an application for general usage We have set about testing REALbasic with a series of small applications. The first application in this process is linked below.
Palava Player (compiled demo for Mac)
download Universal Binary
Palava Player (compiled demo for PC)
download Win 98 and later (win 32)
Please note that this is not a release but rather a TEST and that there is no warranty with this application.
Sorry, we haven't built the Linux version yet.
This development process creates various development requirements in itself that is for version control and planning, download sales development and licensing. Version control tools are available for this kind of work and these will need to be reviewed to find the most appropriate for the iCan project. Downloads sales can be handled through ARIA as already developed for FTQR
The result of this project has to be an application that allows for on and off-line usage of organisational information. This implies synchronisation of files and database records as well as a range of difficult details surrounding syncronisation circumstances and relational database tables..
